Community Spirit

May 9, 2020

With everything going on at the moment we had decided to put our fundraising on hold as it was both difficult to arrange and complete challenges and we had to also consider that peoples finances may have been affected from being furloughed or struggling for work and may not at this time feel like they could donate.

However, we could not have been more wrong! Over the past week our local community has come together and helped us to raise over £2000!!

It all started when our friend and neighbor decided to do a cameo of the famous Orville song – “I wish I could fly” to raise money for Charlie. This was shared and reached a great audience even travelling as far as Spain! There is now a second video in the pipeline with a promised £300 donation already secured for its creation! (You can watch the first installment below!)

Next one of our fellow community members decided to write a post in our Community Facebook group after she had come across our fundraising page appealing to our community to please read and donate to Charlie’s wheelchair fund if they felt that they could.  This then spurred another community member and one of our regular walkers on our community walk’s (The one’s we are so desperate to get Charlie on!) to arrange a bake sale for VE Day to raise further funds! So that was it, both myself and his wife went into baking overdrive to get things prepared for the sale the next day. The kindness and support they showed in not only baking but then also helping to man the stall was amazing! The next surprise to us was the unbelievable turn out from our community. The unbelievable generosity they showed us was outstanding. We had people turning up with fabulous bakes which they donated throughout the day for us to sell ensuring we had a constant supply of goods and  helping us to reach the outstanding amount of money we made from this one bake sale!

On the day we raised a staggering £415! I want to say a massive thank you to every member of our community who made the effort to come to our stall to make a donation of baking, wished us well and shared our fundraiser. And of course I would also like to say a massive heartfelt thank you to each and every one who has donated to Charlie’s fund.

We have received donations from not only family, friends, neighbours, members of our community,  but also complete strangers who have read our story and seen our cause and felt it worthy of a donation. We are truly overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness of you all in what are such difficult circumstances. Community spirit is certainly very alive and well in our little Village 🙂

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,

Stay safe and keep healthy,

With love from

Jo, Dan & The Mini Maleys  x
